The Buddha Project & Red Bluff Land Updates

April 2005

We would like to update you on a recent decision that the Managers of Osel Dorje Nyingpo, LLC. have made regarding the Red Bluff land in California that we own.

Prior to H.E. Khempo Rinpoche's departure for India in January, he discussed several items that were important to him and the land holdings of ODN, LLC. were among those topics.

Khempo Rinpoche said that the ODN land on Mt. Shasta was very important, and that because Mt. Shasta was a sacred mountain, he thought that we should build a Stupa there. Now it seems particularly fitting to build a Stupa in Khempo Rinpoche's honor. Therefore, the 'Mt. Shasta Stupa' will be added to the projects that Osel Dorje Nyingpo will be initiating.

As for the Red Bluff land, Khempo Rinpoche had just recently decided that the land was too remote to be accessible for people to visit, and that if we did build the memorial Buddhas there, as we have been planning, not enough people would be able to see them and benefit from their presence. He went so far as to say that we should sell the land, and put that money towards purchase of another site.

Interestingly enough, Khempo Rinpoche had located another large parcel of land in the Shasta area, which he had been very excited about purchasing. He believed that this land was very spiritually powerful, and that it had enormous potential for anyone wishing to contribute to its purchase. He also considered it to be a better building site for a standing Buddha than Red Bluff.

Khempo Rinpoche initiated discussions and negotiations with the owner of this land prior to leaving for India. Because of his last instructions, and his determination to purchase this land, the Managers would like to continue with the purchase, and also sell the Red Bluff land. Most members of ODN, LLC. will be reinvesting the monies from the sale of the Red Bluff land to facilitate the Shasta purchase, and we thank them for their continued commitment to our goals.

If you are interested in the specifics of the new land, we would be happy to supply you with more information. Click here.

The Buddha Project for World Peace Update

A New Name!

For those of you who know about 'The Buddha Project for World Peace,' we would like to update you on some new developments, and introduce newcomers to the project as well.

Prior to going to India, H.E. Khempo Rinpoche renamed 'The Buddha Project for World Peace' to 'The World Peace Project,' and with this new name comes an exciting new plan.

As some of you may know, 'The Buddha Project for World Peace's' purpose was to reproduce the wonderful positive energy of the Bamiyan Buddha statues, which were destroyed in Afghanistan.

Khempo Rinpoche told us that Buddhism teaches that all things are interrelated. The concept of Interdependent Origination is key to understanding karma, or cause and effect. Interdependent origination is related to the fact that everything in the universe holds an energy that is either positive or negative, and those energies have an effect on all that we see and experience in this world.

Because much negative energy was released due to the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas, we had planned to build a monument, in the United States, to memorialize the statues, as well as create new positive energy for the world. The original site for the project was going to be on land that ODN, LLC. owned in Red Bluff, CA.

As explained in the 'Red Bluff Land Updates' above, Khempo Rinpoche felt that the Red Bluff land was too inaccessible for many people to visit, whereas the new land is in a better location. Per Khempo Rinpoche's suggestion, the Red Bluff land is going to be sold, and this new parcel of land in Shasta, CA will be purchased.

The Shasta land is partially commercially zoned, and therefore we have many options open to us for development. Currently, there is revenue being generated from the billboards that are placed on the part of the land that is next to the highway. Khempo Rinpoche had many exciting ideas for how to use and develop the land which included revenue-producing elements, as well as providing a site for 'The World Peace Project' and the eventual building of a symbol of Enlightenment. For those of you who are interested in obtaining more details, please feel free to contact us at info@odn-usa.org.

ODN is committed to supporting H.E. Khempo Rinpoche's vision, and our plans now reflect the changes that Khempo Rinpoche suggested.

For any of you who have previously made donations to 'The Buddha Project for World Peace' during 2004, please be assured that your generous contributions will be applied to 'The World Peace Project,' and your status as Founding Donors will be maintained. And, for those of you who have yet to make contributions, the 'Founding Donor' opportunity is still available through 2005. We are grateful for your on-going support.

Information will be added regularly to the website about 'The World Peace Project.' If you would like to be part of a volunteer team to help make this ambitious and exciting project a reality, please contact us.

'The World Peace Project' website will be updated shortly.
